What we have to share is not a "what," but a "who"– Jesus. He is our message. He is what we have to offer. He is the Good News–the Great News: The Gospel. And in him are many blessings! In him we have changed lives and forgiveness of sin. In him is eternal life and Spiritual renewal. In him is comfort, joy, peace, and patience. Love and grace, mercy and power, holiness and freedom–all are found in him. In fact, God himself is found fully in Jesus! That's Good News.
How are all these things found in Jesus? What does Jesus do for us that we should come to him for such wonderful blessings? Join us as we explore these questions as followers of Christ!
The Good News is that Jesus was sacrificed for our sins, that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day, just as the Bible said he would be. First he suffered, and then he was exalted.
His name is Jesus because he saves his people from their sins. And he is called Immanuel because he is God with us. He is the Good Shepherd because he leads, feeds, guides, and protects us–he lays down his life for us, his sheep. No one took his life from him, but he laid it down on his own accord. He had the authority to lay it down, but he also had the authority to pick it up again!
In his dying and rising, God has given us himself in Jesus. And therefore, we can come to God through Jesus. That is why it is Good News that Jesus was crucified for our sins according to Scripture, that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day, all according to the Scriptures.
